   Photoshop for Beginners, Tuition: $60 per session

Requirements: Participants should bring items for note taking in this lecture demonstration Workshop.
Level: This class is meant for Photoshop beginners, with very little or no Photoshop knowledge or skill.

If you're just getting started with Adobe Photoshop and need someone to walk you through this program one step at a time, then this class is for you. This 3-hour Workshop will show you how to navigate through the palettes and tools, how to set preferences, download your files, how to sort them and make simple corrections. You'll also learn how to use some of the more basic tools and how to start storing your images.

Topics that will be covered during the Workshop:

  • The best way to download your images using Adobe Bridge (it comes with Photoshop!)
  • How to sort and edit in Bridge
  • How to set up a simple system for storing your files
  • How to set preferences and color settings in Photoshop
  • How to set up a workspace in Photoshop
  • How to best navigate through the tools and palettes
  • What makes a good image and how can we use Photoshop to make our files better
  • How to make simple corrections
  • How to apply some simple retouching techniques
  • Sizing your images for the web or for printing

   Watercolor Class for Beginner and Intermediate Students, Tuition: $60 per session

The intention of this workshop is to provide a forum in which to open and enrich one's artistic soul and explore the experience of watercolor painting in a relaxed supportive environment. Each morning's class will meet on the front porch overlooking the surrounding landscape of gardens, fields, and distant mountains. While reflecting on the color, form and atmosphere participants will be encouraged to make note of their observation during our morning's conversation. We will document the weekend's experience in our personal sketchbooks working on watercolor paintings in this congenial, exquisite atmosphere.

joy nagyJOY NAGY, painter and author, is a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts' Liberty Partnerships Program. Books: 'Build Your Own Alphabet', a book of paper sculptures, published by Harry N. Abrams. Ms Nagy wrote and illustrated,'Chocolate Astrology', published by Clarkson Potter.

Ms Nagy has painted all her life; her work has been shown in galleries, private, and corporate collections. Her most recent exhibition took place at The Koussevitzky Art Gallery/ Berkshire Community College in Pittsfield Mass. Ms Nagy’s entire series of watercolors, drawings and installations entitled ‘Leaf Storm’ shown most recently at The Staten Island Museum and the Moray Art Centre in Findhorn, Scotland. This cooking adventure offers innovative ideas for using the summer’s bounty while teaching you essential skills and basic techniques all in a relaxed, informal setting of a country kitchen. linda pelaccioLINDA PELACCIO is a food writer and media coach specializing in culinary media training for TV, radio, print, and live presentations. She is also the host of "A Taste of the Past," a weekly interview show on HeritageRadioNetwork.com Linda is a former producer for the Food Network and past executive producer of the radio talk show "Everyday Kitchen." She has a background in Italian cookery and Ancient Roman and Medieval Culinary History, and is a member of IACP, New York Women’s Culinary Alliance, Les Dames d’Escoffier and the Culinary Historians of New York.

   Beekeeping, Tuition: $60 per session

If you are concerned about the disappearance of bees around the world and would like to help to restore this important insect back into nature then you may want to become a beekeeper. This two-day workshop will help you to start thinking about how you can work together with nature and make a difference.

The comprehensive workshop will give you instruction in basic beekeeping. You will learn about the seasonal life cycle of the bees and management of the hive, basic bee biology, how to identify and manage bee pests and the necessary equipment for starting your own hives. Hands-on exploration of beehives will take place in order to observe and learn about the storage of honey, pollen and brood care. We will discuss when and how to remove honey from the combs and how to prepare it for bottling.

james fisherWALTER BAUER is a beekeeper who grew up on his father's bee farm, Twin Spruce Apiaries. He will be assisted by Rose Viggiano who has become fascinated by her beekeeping hobby.
